Social media will be banned for children under 15 years in France in the coming months – unless progress is made at EU level, says France's President Emmanuel Macron according to Politico.

Several countries in the EU are driving the issue of the union limiting the time teenagers can spend online. Macron says, however, that it needs to go faster.

We cannot wait, he says to channel France 2.

On Tuesday evening, he wrote on X that "platforms have the possibility to verify age. Let's do it".

The President also states that they will soon introduce age verification for websites that sell knives. Similar verification exists for porn sites.

A fifteen-year-old should no longer be able to buy a knife online, he says.
