The French presidential couple is in Vietnam to strengthen France's ties to Southeast Asia.
But instead of talking politics and friendship, Macron has had to answer questions about that film sequence from the airport in Hanoi.
Macron viral clip with Brigitte
The video clip shows what appears to be a quarrel inside the plane door, where Brigitte Macron seems to push away Emmanuel Macron's face with her hands. The President looks shaken, but quickly composes himself before turning around and waving to the cameras.
My wife and I were joking, I was surprised, he says to journalists a day later.
Now it has become a kind of global disaster and some are coming up with their own theories about the images.
Deliberate disinformation
Besides the clip from Hanoi, he is referring to images from earlier in May that allegedly show Macron using cocaine on a train on his way to Kyiv and how he is being lectured by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
There are three video clips where I took out a handkerchief, shook hands with someone and joked with my wife, which we do quite often. It's not more than that, says Macron and blames the uproar on "networks that are quite easy to find" and points to "the Russians" and "French extremists".
The films are not tampered with, he says, but the images are completely taken out of their contexts.
None of them are true.
Everyone must calm down a bit.
Russia comments
The film has already been commented on by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry. On Telegram, she writes according to AFP that Macron "got a straight right from his wife". Zakharova, who previously claimed that Macron tested cocaine in Kyiv, asks herself if they will claim that he got a blow "from the Kremlin's hand".
Macron, who seemingly wants to put the clip behind him, will after Vietnam visit Indonesia and Singapore before the presidential plane turns back again.
