Canada announced its Olympic squad on Wednesday, and unsurprisingly, Colorado assistant captain Nathan MacKinnon was one of those selected.
MacKinnon got to celebrate the milestone on the ice, as Colorado faced St. Louis at home at Ball Arena in Denver just a few hours later. Just three minutes into the game, the 30-year-old reached another milestone.
After Josh Manson got the puck right in front of the goal, MacKinnon scored his 400th NHL goal.
Colorado got off to an explosive start. One minute into the game, Valeri Nichushkin made it 1–0. Barely four minutes later the score was 4–0 after goals 400 and 401 from MacKinnon and another one from Nichushkin - Cale Makar also had a goal disallowed in traffic.
Before the game was over, Nichushkin had managed to score another goal and MacKinnon had two assists.
Sweden's Olympic squad, to which his Colorado teammate and captain, Gabriel Landeskog, has already been selected, will be presented Friday.
