María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her fight for freedom and democracy in dictatorial Venezuela. She will now take some time off to take care of her health, a spokesperson announced.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate has previously spoken about her dangerous escape from Venezuela to Norway to receive the prize. She arrived several hours late to attend the Peace Prize ceremony and her daughter accepted the prize in her place.
Machado has promised to return to Venezuela, but is expected to visit other European countries and perhaps the United States before she does so.
