The deal has thus received all the approvals required.
The purchase is to be completed at the earliest on October 15, but it may be delayed until the end of October for practical reasons, according to the bankruptcy trustee.
Battery manufacturer Lyten announced in early August that it had signed a binding agreement to buy the assets of bankrupt Northvolt.
Lyten is an unlisted American company, with its headquarters in San José, California. The company has built up production of lithium-sulfur batteries, sensors, and composite materials over a period of ten years. Northvolt's production involved lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.
The Northvolt assets that Lyten is buying were previously valued at around five billion dollars, according to Lyten. The price Lyten is paying for the bankrupt Northvolt's assets is secret, but is taking place using existing funds in the company.
In connection with Northvolt's bankruptcy application in March 2025, there were approximately 5,000 employees, of which around 3,000 were in the battery factory Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå.
