The French football club Lyon is being forcibly relegated from the top league in France to Ligue 2, according to several French media outlets.
The reason is the club's major financial problems and debts.
It is the French directorate National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), which oversees the economy of French professional clubs, that has made the decision.
Lyon was informed in November 2024 that they risked being relegated due to their financial problems, with debts amounting to nearly two billion kronor according to French L'Equipe.
Lyon has the opportunity to appeal the decision.
The club finished in sixth place in Ligue 1 the previous season.
