Much is unclear about what happened when the luxury yacht Bayesian sank under mysterious circumstances on 19 August 2024.

IT magnate Mike Lynch was on a trip around Sicily with family and friends. He was celebrating his acquittal in a lengthy fraud case in connection with the sale of one of his tech companies.

Prior to the sinking, a storm had brewed, but the luxury yacht was close to land and should have been able to withstand the bad weather. In less than a quarter of an hour, however, the vessel was filled with water.

The 56-meter-long vessel has now been lifted out of the water and Italian investigators hope that the wreck will provide clues as to what caused the accident.

In total, seven people died, including Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter. 15 people were able to be rescued from the sinking yacht.

Italian prosecutors have launched a preliminary investigation into suspected negligent homicide against the boat's captain and two crew members. However, no one has been notified of suspicion of a crime.
