Lund has been designated a city of literature within UNESCO's network of creative cities.

The network, which includes 400 cities, is designed to support collaboration between cities where creativity is seen as a strategic factor behind sustainable urban development.

"The city's rich educational tradition and multifaceted literary life, with strong actors and innovative collaborations, make Lund a valuable addition to the network," says Maria Wilenius, Secretary General of the Swedish UNESCO Council, in a press release .

Three Swedish cities are already part of the network: Östersund (with a focus on gastronomy), Norrköping (music) and Gothenburg (literature).
