"Luna has had recurring health problems for a long time and has received a lot of care and treatment. For some time now, she has been ill again and after a comprehensive veterinary medical assessment, continued treatment was no longer the right way forward," the zoo wrote in a post on Instagram on Friday.
Luna was treated for a skin bacterium found in the water. It causes a rash on the skin and can spread to muscles and tendons if left untreated, writes NT.
Previously, a veterinarian was reported to the County Administrative Board for neglect. The report stated that the treatment should be adjusted or Luna should be euthanized.
