"Today's decision is not an isolated incident. It is part of a deliberate escalation of hostile actions against Brazil, motivated by ideological reasons," Brazilian President Lula da Silva's office wrote in a statement.
The US is justifying its action by saying that Brazil has denied visas to two employees of the US State Department. Brazil is also accused of delaying approval of Trump's choice as ambassador to the country, sources told the BBC and AFP respectively.
However, Brazil's ambassador to Washington has not been declared persona non grata and forced to leave the United States, according to AFP.
