Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro Trade Insults in Tense Brazil Presidential Debate

The first television debate ahead of the decisive round of Brazil’s presidential election was marked by a frosty atmosphere between the two candidates, Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro.

Brazil will retire you, the 45-year-old Bolsonaro told the 81-year-old Lula in a debate that, according to local media, was characterized more by personal attacks than substantive politics.

Accusations such as "liar" and "clown" flew back and forth in a television studio in São Paulo, where Workers’ Party veteran and current President Lula faced the son of far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is in prison.

Bolsonaro the Younger now has the upper hand, having unexpectedly won the first round of the presidential election. The decisive round will be held on Sunday, October 25.

Before then, another television debate will be held on Friday evening.
