Inter Miami's Luis Suárez spat at Seattle Sounders' security chief after the final loss in Leagues Cup, the tournament for club teams from American and Mexican top divisions.
For that, he was suspended for six matches in Leagues Cup.
Now the Uruguayan striker is being punished further. USA's league, MLS, has decided to suspend Suárez for three league matches.
The 38-year-old has previously apologized for his actions.
"It was a moment of great tension and frustration, where things happened directly after the match that should not have happened. But it does not justify my reaction, I acted wrongly and I regret it sincerely", Suárez wrote on social media according to Reuters.
It is not the first time the former Liverpool and Barcelona player has received a longer suspension. On three occasions, he has been suspended for biting opponents – when Suárez bit Giorgio Chiellini during the World Championship in Brazil 2014, he was suspended for four months.
