Lufthansa's first-quarter loss shrinks, better than expected

High demand for long-haul flights is offsetting the effects of higher fuel prices, disruptions and strikes.

The adjusted operating loss decreased by 15 percent to 612 million euros. The average forecast was for a loss of 650 million euros, according to Bloomberg.

Sales rose 7.6 percent to 8.7 billion euros in the quarter, also better than expected.
