"It was a perfectly okay round, nothing remarkable really. But it was a positive day, especially the last nine holes," says Åberg, according to Svensk Golf.

Since his PGA debut in 2023, putting has been Åberg's Achilles heel. While many of the world's top players have switched to larger putter models, Åberg has continued to play with a classic blade putter.

Until now.

During the first round at Colonial Country Club, the Swede used a crescent-shaped putter, a so-called "mallet putter".

Åberg finished with a round of 66 strokes and is two strokes behind the leaders.

Fellow countryman and amateur Albert Hansson was three over par in his debut on the PGA Tour, while Pontus Nyholm was even par.
