Ludvig Åberg is thrown directly into the hot air when the Ryder Cup kicks off on Friday. The 25-year-old plays in the foursome matches together with Matt Fitzpatrick. The duo faces the world number one Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley.

The Swede is thus given the trust in the initial foursome matches – this time side by side with the Englishman Fitzpatrick.

Two years ago in Rome, Åberg was part of a Scandinavian super duo along with Norway's Viktor Hovland.

Together they played three matches, where the highlight became the historic crush against Scheffler and Brooks Koepka – a victory that was written into the history books as the largest so far in Ryder Cup foursomes.

Now Europe's captain Luke Donald breaks the winning partnership and bets on a new constellation.

The four matches that initiate the Ryder Cup at Swedish lunchtime:

Jon Rahm/Tyrrell Hatton – Bryson DeChambeau/Justin Thomas.

Ludvig Åberg/Matt Fitzpatrick – Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley.

Rory McIlroy/Tommy Fleetwood – Collin Morikawa/Harris English.

Robert MacIntyre/Viktor Hovland – Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay.
