Aberg started the final round shining and with four birdies on the first six holes, he quickly climbed the leaderboard.

The setback came on the ninth hole. The ball ended up in a bunker and Aberg did not reach the green with the shot from there. Then he three-putted, to make matters worse – with a double bogey as a result.

During the second round on Friday, Aberg needed seven strokes on a par 3-hole after he had hit several strokes in the thick rough, but he recovered and cleared the cut limit.

Aberg came back strongly again and finished the round on 66 strokes, four under par.

Overall, the 25-year-old ended up at –13 and a shared 13th place, one stroke ahead of Jesper Svensson who shared 18th place.

New Zealander Ryan Fox and American Sam Burns both finished 18 under par and had to play a playoff to decide the winner. Fox eventually decided it with a birdie when the duo played the 18th hole for the fourth time.

Ludvig Aberg climbs two places on the world ranking where he is again sixth. The US Open, this year's third golf major, is played at Oakmont Country Club and starts on Thursday.
