During Friday's round of the DP Tour competition at the Renaissance Club in eastern Scotland, Åberg was cold off the tee and kept hovering around the qualifying mark, which ultimately fell at -2.
With birdies on his 16th and 17th holes, followed by a bogey on the last, he finished at one over par (71 strokes) and a total of -1.
"I had too little control over where the ball was going. I played with both a left and a right miss," Åberg told Viaplay after finishing the round.
Even then, he suspected that it was all over for this weekend.
"We'll see if we can continue playing, but I doubt it."
One who also failed to meet the qualifying mark was world number one Scottie Scheffler, who finished on par.
Only two of five Swedes made it through. Both Mikael Lindberg and Jesper Svensson finished at two under par and will continue playing. Lindberg is in the best position at -3 overall, with Svensson one stroke behind.
Joakim Lagergren (even par) and Alex Norén (+4) have finished, just like Ludvig Åberg.
A trio shares the lead at -9 after two days of play: Rory McIlroy, Tom Kim and Jordan Smith.
Next week, the last major of the year, the British Open, will be played at Royal Birkdale.
