While Sweden have been fully focused on the World Cup, rumours have been swirling about Lucas Bergvall's future. Nottingham looks set to lose their England international midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, and Bergvall is said to be high on the list of possible replacements.

The Swedish talent has hardly seen his market value decline during the World Cup.

First start in the World Cup

It has been a memory for life, something you have dreamed of since you were little. If someone had asked me seven months ago, when we had only taken one point in the World Cup qualifiers, I would have said that this would be impossible. But now we are standing here today and have played a play-off match against France, says Lucas Bergvall.

Sweden have just been knocked out of the tournament. A dazzling France won the round of 16 in East Rutherford 3-0. But Bergvall has also just played his first World Cup match from the start, having made three fine substitute appearances during the group stage.

“Can't wish for much more”

When he was substituted into the opening match against Tunisia, he became the Swedish men's national team's youngest World Cup debutant of all time.

"I'm incredibly proud and happy about what we've achieved as a team. I think it's the start of something big. Graham (Potter, national team captain) came in just a few months ago and I think we have something to build on for the future," says Bergvall.

How have these World Cup weeks been?

Incredible. It's been a dream since I was little to be here and represent Sweden. You can't ask for much more. Maybe a win today, but otherwise nothing.
