Louvre Reaches Deal With Unions, Averting Strike Threat After Months of Tension

While nationwide protests continue to threaten France, with the next action scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at least one contentious issue has been resolved at the country’s premier museum.

The Louvre has now signed an agreement with the unions that have been threatening to strike for months, reports Le Figaro.

After last year’s art heist, in which the museum lost jewels worth around one billion kronor, a broad coalition of French unions launched strikes, citing poor working conditions, staff shortages and the museum’s handling of renovations.

As part of the new agreement, the Louvre has promised to hire 50 new security staff by 2027. In addition, the museum will raise salaries for certain professional groups.
