The opening of the Louvre in Paris was heavily delayed on Monday. Employees referred to the museum management being in a crisis meeting, however, no details about what the meeting is about have been made public.
The delay meant that thousands of visitors were left standing in a stationary queue while the museum remained closed. The queue stretched from IM Pei's famous glass pyramid all the way down to the shopping center under the museum.
In a message on the Louvre's website, reference is made to the strike in the public administration that is ongoing in France:
"Due to strikes in France, the museum may open later than usual, and some exhibition halls may remain closed. We thank you for your understanding".
