The aim is to finance the restoration of old burial grounds, including the famous Père-Lachaise cemetery, where The Doors singer Jim Morrison is buried, as well as the writer Oscar Wilde and the singer Édith Piaf.
Ten graves are being raffled off at Père-Lachaise, as well as at the Montparnasse cemetery, where writers Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Susan Sontag are buried. At the Montmartre cemetery, ten Parisians have the chance to be buried near the artist Edgar Degas, the actress Jeanne Moreau and the singer France Gall.
The winners get the chance to buy the grave for 4,000 euros and restore it themselves. The survivors also need to pay 976 euros for a ten-year contract, or 17,668 euros to have the grave in perpetuity.
