The six-time convicted Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been killed in a knife attack at Wakefield prison in the United Kingdom, reports BBC.

The police were called to the prison on Saturday morning after an alarm about an assault where a fellow inmate attacked Watkins. He was declared dead at the scene.

Watkins had been serving a 29-year sentence since 2013 for sexual abuse of children, including the rape of an infant. In 2017, it was revealed that he had tried to groom a new victim outside the prison and in 2019, his prison sentence was extended after he had hidden a mobile phone in his rectum.

Watkins was assaulted by other inmates on several occasions during his time in prison, including last year, when he was cut with a sharpened toilet brush.

Ian Watkins was 48 years old.
