Cape Verde's luck in the World Cup match against Spain turned into one player's great misfortune. The person had bet just over $1 million, equivalent to approximately 9 million kronor, on a Spanish victory on the prediction market Polymarket.

A Spanish victory would have given the person around 800,000 kronor in profit, but when Cape Verde instead held Spain to a 0–0 draw against all odds, all the money went up in smoke. Ahead of the group match, Polymarket put the probability of a Spanish victory at around 92 percent, Bloomberg reported.
