Nasser al-Attiyah was 9 minutes and 59 seconds ahead of second-placed Seth Quintero, USA, on the 428-kilometer-long stage in the desert in Saudi Arabia, but due to the time penalty, the 22-year-old Quintero now wins the stage by just one second.
Swede Mattias Ekström and co-driver Emil Bergkvist finished third, just eight seconds behind Seth Quintero.
The Swedish car is also third in the overall standings – over 21 minutes behind leader Henk Lategan, South Africa.
A total of seven stages remain in the Dakar Rally, which has been held exclusively in Saudi Arabia since 2020.
