Jim Hiller, coach of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, has been fired, the club announced on its website.
Canadian Hiller was replaced by compatriot D.J. Smith for the rest of the season.
The announcement comes less than a day after the Kings defeated Calgary 2–0 at home. Goaltender Anton Forsberg played well and recorded a shutout, while Olympic forward Adrian Kempe scored the decisive empty-net goal. The Kings had lost five straight games before the game.
