The man's head was pushed out after the window pane shattered shortly after departure from Thessaloniki, Greece, on July 10. He was saved by the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt and that fellow passengers held onto his legs.
An engine blade detached during flight at an altitude of 4,570 meters. It hit the window and other parts of the plane, according to a report from the US accident investigation authority NTSB.
The aircraft, a US-made Boeing 737-800, was flown by Malta Air, which is owned by Ryanair.
The man escaped with neck and shoulder injuries and scratches.
