Mikaela Shiffrin's long wait for another Olympic medal is over. After winning gold in the slalom, she spent most of her press conference talking about missing her father, Jeff, who passed away six years ago.

With two perfect runs, the American once again showed why she is by far the world's best slalom skier. At the same time, the medal was her first at an Olympic Games since her gold in giant slalom in 2018.

She said she thinks about her father every day.

I don't want to live without my dad, and maybe today was the first time I could actually accept this reality. Instead of thinking I would go into this moment without him, I took the opportunity to share it in silence with him.

Shiffrin is only the second woman to win Olympic slalom gold twice. The first was Vreni Schneider in 1994 and 1998.
