The British government says that a decision on a handover will be made by the British Parliament, and that the date will be announced - unclear when, the BBC reports.
Minister Hamish Falconer had said that a decision was being postponed - and that London was “discussing concerns directly with the US”.
The military base on the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean is run by the US and the UK. London believes that the agreement with Mauritius “secures the operations of the shared US-UK base on Diego Garcia for generations.”
US President Donald Trump recently asked Prime Minister Keir Starmer to reverse the decision.
