Denmark will never accept an American takeover of Greenland, notes Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at a press conference in Århus with TT and other visiting EU correspondents.
He is however not worried about a military intervention.
We do not think that a military annexation is something that can happen, absolutely not. But we must not underestimate the situation. We have to act cautiously, says Løkke.
The Foreign Minister is traveling to the USA over the weekend together with Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen for new cooperation talks. He notes at the same time that there are already great opportunities for the USA to expand its military presence in Greenland in accordance with the cooperation they have had with Denmark since the early 1950s.
I am calm and optimistic. But if it's about (creating) a greater USA, there is no chance that we can allow it, says Løkke in Århus.
