The reigning Premier League champion's reunion after the summer break was a day later than planned, after the club was reached by the tragic news that Diogo Jota had died in a car accident in early July.
But Sunday's training match against Preston, at their arena Deepdale, will be carried out as planned. With the change that the clubs will pay tribute to Jota before the match.
A version of Liverpool's entrance song "You'll never walk alone" will be played before kick-off, and Preston will lay a wreath in front of the visiting supporters.
A minute of silence will be held, and video tributes will be shown on the big screen and the digital advertising signs along the pitch. The players in both teams will wear black armbands during the match.
It was on July 3 that Jota died in a car accident in Spain. His brother André Silva also died in the accident, and will also be paid tribute to before Preston–Liverpool.
Several Liverpool players as well as coach Arne Slot were present at the brothers' funeral in Portugal on July 6.
