The request from the country's interior minister, Martynas Katelynas, to move soldiers to the border comes after riots at Latvia's border with Belarus on Tuesday, The Kyiv Independent reports.
Armed people from Belarus are said to have tried to help migrants cross the border into Lithuania illegally. Shortly afterwards, masked people are said to have crossed the border, stolen materials and returned to Belarus.
Lithuania's interior minister emphasizes that the situation at the border is currently calm.
"There is no reason to panic. Deploying soldiers is a preventive measure so that we are prepared and can prevent similar incidents," Katelynas writes on Facebook.
