Lisa Lilja Retires from Sprinting, Partner Thobias Montler Confirms

Long jumper Thobias Montler is at the World Championship in Tokyo, but his partner Lisa Lilja is not. The sprinter has not competed at all during 2025. It is not so strange. She neither competes nor trains anymore. She has quit, Montler reveals to Expressen.

Lilja won three Swedish Championship gold medals during her career, two on 200 meters and one on 400 meters. She represented Sweden at two European Championships – Munich 2022 and Rome 2024, in both 200 and 400 meters.

Now the 28-year-old has therefore stopped, a decision that has not been previously communicated by either the athletics association or Lilja herself.

I have been fairly low-key about all this and not told many people, because I have not wanted to limit myself by making a firm decision. But now I feel that I must go out and say how it is.

Now you can definitely put a stamp on it. I have stopped, says Lilja to the evening newspaper.

On Wednesday, Thobias Montler competes in the World Championship final in long jump at 13.50 Swedish time.
