After two periods on the road against Boston, Ottawa had built a comfortable 4–0 lead. The team's star Swedish goalie Linus Ullmark had stopped every shot.

However, the 33-year-old gave way to compatriot Samuel Ersson in the third period.

According to coach Travis Green, the change was a precaution after Ullmark collided with Boston forward JJ Peterka late in the second period.

"We felt it was best to take him off," Green said, according to the AP.

Ottawa won 4–1.
