There was nothing wrong with the festive atmosphere at Bernardus Golf after Europe defeated the USA 15-13 and reclaimed the Solheim Cup trophy.
Linn Grant's four wins in as many games were key to Europe's victory, but the 27-year-old Swede didn't expect to be the wildest at the team's continued partying later in the evening.
There will be a lot of dancing, but the detox is hard, unfortunately - even if you just won the Solheim Cup. But you can still have fun, Grant says, laughing.
“Huge process”
The Skåne native has previously said that she suffers from endometriosis, which can give her severe stomach pain during menstruation or ovulation.
That's why I've started to take a look at my diet, to see what's causing the imbalances in my body. It's a huge process I'm going through. I've been doing it for a month and it's given me an incredible amount of energy, says Grant.
Perhaps that is also part of the explanation for her tremendous performance during the three days of competition in the Netherlands. Grant came to the Solheim Cup in rather shaky form and had missed the qualifying mark in five of her last six competitions. In addition, she took zero points in four matches in the last Solheim edition two years ago.
That she would end the week as Europe's best player was therefore a high-odds prediction in advance.
It's been a great week. Definitely my best Solheim and getting to do it with this group... Such incredibly easygoing and fun people, who have just taken on this task in a great way, says Grant.
“Strengthens you of course”
Maja Stark lost her singles to Lindy Duncan, but was the one who shone the most in the doubles match with Grant. But Grant's performance was the one that surprised her the most.
Suddenly you are in the present, you zoom out on everything else. Winning four matches is great fun and makes you stronger of course, you can't lie that it's not fun to miss a lot of "cutters". At the same time, I've known all along that I have a good game, says Grant, who already decided her match on the 15th hole against the in-form Angel Yin.
Grant also paid tribute to Captain Anna Nordqvist's importance to the European triumph on Bernardus.
It has been really pleasant and fun to play for her. She and (predecessor) Suzann Pettersen are very different. Suzann is really cool in her own way and I personally like her. But to suit as many people as possible, Anna has done a great job.
2019: Europe won 14.5-13.5 at Scotland's Gleneagles.
2021: Europe won 15-13 in Toledo, Ohio.
2023: Europe was able to keep the title after a 14-14 draw at Finca Cortesín in Spain.
2024: USA won 15.5-12.5 in Gainesville, Virginia.
2026: Europe won 15-13 at the Dutch Bernardus.
