Two students were killed and nine others were injured in Saturday's attack at the prestigious Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
On Monday, Nuno Loureiro – a professor at MIT in Cambridge, about eighty miles away in the neighboring state of Massachusetts – was shot in his home. He died in hospital on Tuesday.
No suspect has been arrested in any of the cases. However, according to AP, police are investigating whether there is a connection between the incidents.
Two sources also tell the news agency that police have identified a person wanted for the Brown shooting and are now trying to find him.
A person who was arrested on Sunday has since been released and removed from the investigation.
