There were doubts about Graham, who had no previous experience as an elected politician and was appointed by the state governor in July to temporarily fill her brother's seat. This was especially true when, in a debate last week, she was asked about Taiwan and replied that she was "not very informed about national security."
With the primary victory, Graham, who previously worked on public health issues, has essentially secured victory in this fall's congressional elections. South Carolina has not voted for a Democratic senator since 1998, according to Axios.
