Fredrik Lindgren finished fifth in the World Championship premiere in speedway in German Landshut.
The Swedish rider had a tough start as he finished last in his first heat, but then lined up four straight second places. It was enough to qualify for the semifinal for one of the last spots in the final, but even then Lindgren finished second and was thus eliminated.
The final was won by the dominant rider of the recent seasons, Bartosz Zmarzlik. The Pole has this year the chance to equal Tony Rickardsson's record of six World Championship golds.
The next round will be decided in two weeks in Warsaw.
