Lindelöf, unexpectedly, did not take a place in the back line but instead played as a defensive midfielder.
He did so with flying colours and stood out, as did the rest of Aston Villa, in a strong performance that overturned a one-goal deficit from the first meeting (0–1). Lindelöf was substituted in the 74th minute.
The scorers in the 4–0 victory were Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Buendia and John McGinn. McGinn scored twice.
The final awaits German Freiburg, who beat Portuguese Braga 4–3 on aggregate. National team defender Gustaf Lagerbielke played the entire match for Braga.
The final will be played in Istanbul on May 20. The reigning champions are Tottenham.
