Chinese world number one Lin Shidong, on his 20th birthday, went ahead 2-0 in sets in the meeting with Möregårdh and was then on his way to an easy victory also in the third set.

Then the Swedish table tennis star woke up.

At a disadvantage of 6-10, Truls Möregårdh saved four consecutive set balls. Then it continued as would become a real marathon set. When Möregårdh - with a sideline ball - equalized to 15-15, he had saved nine set balls. He then got his first set ball at 16-15, but failed to capitalize on it.

In the end, Lin Shidong could win the set with 20-18 - after deciding on his twelfth set ball.

After that, Truls Möregårdh did not have much more to offer. Lin Shidong, who had previously knocked out Anton Källberg in the quarterfinals, won the fourth set with 11-6 and the match with 4-0.
