A thunderstorm swept in over Örebro and Södermanland counties on Wednesday evening. In a grove in Tovekärr, a flock of sheep had taken shelter in the shade on their pastures. Exactly there, the lightning struck.
Of the 38 sheep that were on the spot, 14 died immediately, reports Nerikes Allehanda.
It's terrible. They were our sheep, we have names for them, says sheep owner Maria Johansson to NA.
Maria Johansson and her husband were not at home when the tragedy occurred. When they came home in the afternoon and her husband was going to check on the animals, he was met with the tragedy.
It's the kind of thing you can't control, but it still feels so unfair. It has never happened before, despite the fact that it has thundered many times, says Maria Johansson.
