At least 44 people received medical care after the wild celebrations at Volkparkstadion in Hamburg on Saturday evening. Several injured themselves when they jumped down from the stands, writes German Bild, referring to the local fire department. Other injuries were caused by fights.
Around 25 of them were taken to hospital, of which 20 with serious injuries. For one person, the situation is life-threatening.
Seven years ago, Hamburg was relegated from the top division for the first time since the series started in 1963. But after defeating bottom team Ulm 6–1 on Saturday, it was clear that the classic club is back in the top division next season.
Directly after the final whistle, thousands of supporters stormed the pitch.
