Mladic, now 84, was sentenced to life in prison by an international tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands. His lawyers claim he is seriously ill, has suffered a stroke and is near death.

Just under a year ago, a similar request was submitted and rejected.

Mladic was convicted of his role in the Bosnian War and the Srebrenica genocide. From 11 July 1995 onwards, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were massacred by the Bosnian Serb army under Mladic's command.

Mladic, known as the “Butcher of Bosnia,” was arrested in Serbia in 2011 and convicted in a trial at the UN war crimes tribunal. His sentence was confirmed in 2021.
