“Haunting Adeline” by H.D. Carlton is an international bestseller in the “dark romance” genre, which has become very popular among young people, partly through TikTok. The book contains themes such as stalking, sexual assault and human trafficking.
“We have tried to ensure the best interests of the child,” Frida Svensson, head of a unit at the library, told P4 Väst.
The incident prompted the child’s father to file a complaint against Strömstad Municipality with the Ombudsman.
In its response to the Ombudsman, the library said “there was great concern that a child who borrows these types of books is looking for trauma that could be self-experienced.”
The father told P4 Väst that the child did not want to return to the library after the incident.
