The migrants will arrive within a year, the first 20 as early as this week, according to Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah. Among them are Africans as well as citizens from North and South America and the Caribbean.

The US has made similar agreements with a wide range of other countries, including Rwanda and El Salvador. Thousands of people have been deported to countries they are not from.

The measure allows the US to deport people who cannot be returned to their home countries for security reasons. According to Liberia, the migrants can seek asylum in Liberia, or leave the country at any time they wish.
