Lewis Hamilton started in pole position and led from start to finish in the 19-lap long race. McLaren's Oscar Piastri took second place 6.9 seconds after Hamilton, with Max Verstappen, Red Bull, right behind.

It's hard to put into words how this feels. It's clearly just a sprint race, not the main event, but it's a good step on the way, says Hamilton, according to AP.

After over ten years with Mercedes, the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton switched to the Ferrari team before this season.

The main event will be held on Sunday in Shanghai. Oscar Piastri was the fastest in Saturday's time trial and will start from pole position for the first time. Beside him will be British Mercedes driver George Russell.
