That Probierz has appointed midfielder Piotr Zielinski as new team captain instead of Lewandowski does not seem to have been well received by the 36-year-old goal scorer – who has had the armband since 2014.
"Considering the circumstances and the lack of confidence in the Polish national team's national team coach, I have decided to stop playing for the national team as long as he is responsible. I hope I will get the chance to play in front of the world's best fans again", wrote the Barcelona star on X.
Lewandowski, who holds the record with 158 international matches for Poland, rested in Friday's friendly match against Moldova. Poland face Finland on Tuesday at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, in the World Championship qualifiers which the team has started with two wins.
