According to Norwegian media reports, Rosenborg is paying around six million kroner to Danish club AGF Aarhus.
Wahlstedt, 26, is set to replace Sander Tangvik, who recently signed for Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga.
Wahlstedt previously played for Odd and then for Blackburn Rovers.
