Marchand, 24, became a national hero when he won four Olympic gold medals on home soil in Paris in 2024.
Now he faces another championship on home soil when the European Championships are held in Paris in August. The ongoing French championships are also a European Championship qualifier.
Marchand has already qualified for the 400-meter medley, but is now forced to withdraw from Tuesday night's 200-meter breaststroke final. He is scheduled to swim four more events this week.
Marchand felt a sensation in his groin on Monday.
He is receiving treatment, and we will probably have to wait until tomorrow to get a clearer picture, says Denis Auguin, technical director of the French national team.
