"Arne Goes to Space" is about two brothers from Norrbotten whose peaceful existence of chopping wood and bickering with their hunting party is brought to an end. Partly because one of them falls ill, and partly because an alien crash-lands behind their woodshed.

Lars Vegas, who directs, has previously made short films about life in the Swedish countryside with Lennart Jähkel in the lead role. This time he also got Rolf Lassgård to join him.

I called Rolf and he said: “Well, this wasn’t so bad.”

It's the first time since "The Hunters" that the two have starred in the same film. But in the early stages, a film consultant suggested that Lars Vegas make a film about two sisters instead.

It will be a little more original, said the consultant. And I can agree with that, but then the film would have been five minutes long. Because then they would have sat on the couch, talked with a glass of wine about how it feels and then it's over. There is a built-in dramaturgy here in that men can't talk about feelings, but focus on getting the wood ready before Midsummer instead.

The film is taking part in the section at the festival that highlights promising filmmakers and will have its Swedish theatrical premiere on October 16.
