The lawyer Lena Nyberg has been appointed as the new chairperson for the truth commission for the Sami people.
"Lena Nyberg is an experienced leader with long experience of working with issues concerning human rights. The truth commission has an important task and it is very positive that there is now a chairperson in place", says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a press release.
Lena Nyberg, who previously among other things was the director-general of the Agency for Youth and Civil Society Issues, begins her assignment on April 8.
She succeeds Anders Lidén as chairperson of the commission. He resigned from the assignment at his own request last year. Lidén began his assignment as chairperson in 2023 and succeeded Kerstin Calissendorff, who also resigned at her own request.
